MLL 153 - Intensive Elementary Japanese


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-3A
This Intensive Elementary Japanese course uses electronic input to develop four basic skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing Japanese.  Using realistic situations, students will learn pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, Japanese culture, and three types of Japanese characters.

Breadth Area(s) Satisfied: GE-3A - Arts
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 8 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

1. Use foundational Japanese grammar and vocabulary to engage in basic conversations and write short paragraphs using Japanese characters.
2. Apply culturally appropriate expressions in everyday social situations.
3. Demonstrate accurate pronunciation through listening and speaking practice.
4. Analyze and reflect on Japanese arts and cultural traditions, evaluating their impact on personal perspectives.
5. Examine the historical and cultural contexts of Japanese humanities and describe how diverse identities shape artistic and cultural experiences

  1. Evaluate the impact of the arts on their life.
  2. Examine the cultural and/or historical context(s) of the arts.
  3. Describe the ways that diverse identities influence the creation and experience of art.
