SLHS 693 - Capstone in Speech-Language Pathology


Units: 2
Course serves as the culminating academic experience for graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology. Students will demonstrate readiness for independent practice, ASHA certification, and the clinical fellowship through assignments requiring integration of knowledge, clinical reasoning, and professional judgment across the scope of practice.

Prerequisites: Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify and discuss the requirements for and prepare the paperwork for national certification, state licensure and credentialing to practice as speech-language pathologists.
  2. Demonstrate adequate knowledge and understanding regarding the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, hearing, cognitive and swallowing disorders - as demonstrated by successful completion of and oral presentation of a Masters Thesis OR passing or better performance on a written Masters Comprehensive Examination.
