SLHS 407 - Clinical Methods and Diagnostics


Units: 3
Basic principles of client assessment, treatment and management, including designing therapy hierarchies, collecting data, working with families, reinforcing correct behavior and documenting outcomes.

Prerequisites: SLHS 204, SLHS 302, SLHS 305, SLHS 404
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Discuss professional conduct, collaboration, and advocacy expected of a speech-language pathologist per the ASHA code of ethics.
  2. Critically evaluate and interpret components of standardized and non-standardized client screening and assessment.
  3. Select appropriate, evidence-based clinical approaches and procedures.
  4. Record and analyze client performance.
  5. Develop components of assessment plans, treatment plans, and clinical reports.
  6. Describe considerations of clients’ cultural and linguistic background in the assessment and intervention processes.
