MUS 323 - Topics in Western Music History


Units: 3
 

Special topics in Western music history, with changing content that highlights fresh, niche, or experimental areas of study. Each version offers new perspectives and may be repeated for credit when themes differ.

Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 12 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify musicians who played key roles in shaping these musical traditions;
  2. Learn to see connections between musical practices and the societies that create and sustain them;
  3. Learn to analyze (or “deconstruct”) musical scores for different types of information; and
  4. Employ critical thinking in the process of undertaking short research assignments.
