COMM 461 - Popular Culture

Critical analysis of how popular culture (music, television, advertising, movies, fashion, style, social media, etc.) works and doesn’t work dialectically in our interactions with self and others.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Demonstrate critical understanding and application of media creation and analysis;
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the persuasive effects of media choices upon the development of popular culture;
  3. Identify examples of popular culture persuasion in various forms of media and discuss their influence/s;
  4. Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of various uses of media to influence popular culture.
