ART 278 - Bookmaking I


Units: 3
Create, examine and analyze book art through experience with the basic materials, equipment, and processes of bookmaking, including various bindings and techniques for image content. Skill building exercises, viewing of book art, concept development, and complete book projects.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Utilize a range of bookmaking techniques and materials in the expression of an idea in book form;
  2. Safely handle and maintain the print studio and equipment;
  3. Express an awareness of the history and context of bookmaking in relation to contemporary topics, and social, political, and cultural issues;
  4. Create a portfolio of work demonstrating technical, formal, conceptual, and material development in bookmaking;
  5. Evaluate and critique class projects using correct terminology in oral or written formats.
