SOC 435 - Social Psychology Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: Diversity Examines relationships between individual and society. Emphasis on scientific study of social behavior and experiences stemming from an individual’s participation in diverse social groups, interactions with others, and the intersection of race and gender in various cultural and social environments.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain how the fields of social psychology, sociology, and psychology differ in their approach even when studying the same social phenomena
- Summarize fundamental theories in social psychology regarding the nature of the psyche/self, including socialization, dramaturgy, and network theory, and be able to apply these concepts to class case studies as well as your own life experiences.
- Recognize forms of intergroup discrimination that contribute to social inequalities and stigmatization.
- Explain how our psyches are shaped by broader social structures, including privilege, conformity, and obedience, by using these concepts to analyze contemporary events.

- Describe the histories, experiences or views of one or more cultural groups.
- Analyze the overlap or intersection of social identities of oneself and/or other cultural groups (e.g., culture, gender, class, sexuality, religion, disability, immigration status, and/or age).
