NURS 425 - Community-Public Health Nursing Units: 2
This course prepares students to critically examine and deeply understand structural and systemic factors shaping health among individuals, families, communities, and populations. Students will learn about nurses’ roles in promoting health equity and justice. Note: The Social Justice Overlay requirement is satisfied upon completion of the two-course sequence, NURS 425 and 426.
Prerequisites: For pre-licensure: B.S. Nursing major and all of: NURS 410, NURS 411, NURS 416, NURS 412, NURS 413, NURS 418; For post-licensure: admission to the B.S Nursing Major. Co-requisites: NURS 426. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain the expansive roles of nurses in advancing social justice, equity, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Analyze power structures that shape the social, economic, environmental, and political factors that impact the health of individuals, families, and communities
- Advocate for strength-based approaches to community partnerships to promote health equity
