NURS 326 - Clinical Pharmacology


Units: 2
This course focuses on the principles of pharmacotherapeutics and the characteristics of major drug groups with an emphasis on treatment indications, nursing implications, and the promotion of safety. 

Prerequisites: NURS 310, NURS 309, NURS 312, NURS 307, NURS 308, NURS 316, NURS 318
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as they relate to general drug classifications
  2. Explain the therapeutic indications of pharmacologic agents in the management of common diseases and illnesses
  3. Describe contraindications, common side effects, and potential adverse reactions associated with major drug groups
  4. Apply the steps of the nursing process to the use of different pharmacologic agents in the management of various diseases and illnesses
  5. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse in the practice of safe medication administration, including evidence-based strategies for preventing medication errors.
