NURS 326 - Clinical Pharmacology Units: 2 This course focuses on the principles of pharmacotherapeutics and the characteristics of major drug groups with an emphasis on treatment indications, nursing implications, and the promotion of safety.
Prerequisites: NURS 310, NURS 309, NURS 312, NURS 307, NURS 308, NURS 316, NURS 318 Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Describe the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as they relate to general drug classifications
- Explain the therapeutic indications of pharmacologic agents in the management of common diseases and illnesses
- Describe contraindications, common side effects, and potential adverse reactions associated with major drug groups
- Apply the steps of the nursing process to the use of different pharmacologic agents in the management of various diseases and illnesses
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse in the practice of safe medication administration, including evidence-based strategies for preventing medication errors.
