NURS 316 - Clinical Pathophysiology Units: 3 This course examines mechanisms of disease and pathophysiologic processes in common acute and chronic conditions. Students analyze physiological alterations, interpret clinical findings, and relate pathophysiologic concepts to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and management strategies across healthcare settings.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major, or BIOL 270 and BIOL 271 and department consent. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Analyze the pathogenesis of selected diseases and conditions
- Describe the effects of stress and illness on the health of the individual
- Integrate clinical manifestations and diagnostic findings with acute and chronic physiological alterations
- Discuss introductory treatment modalities to manage acute and chronic disease conditions
- Explain how structural racism, bias, and the myth of race influence susceptibility to disease and contribute to disparities in identification, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes
