NURS 316 - Clinical Pathophysiology


Units: 3
This course examines mechanisms of disease and pathophysiologic processes in common acute and chronic conditions. Students analyze physiological alterations, interpret clinical findings, and relate pathophysiologic concepts to evidence-based prevention, treatment, and management strategies across healthcare settings. 

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major, or BIOL 270 and BIOL 271 and department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Analyze the pathogenesis of selected diseases and conditions
  2. Describe the effects of stress and illness on the health of the individual
  3. Integrate clinical manifestations and diagnostic findings with acute and chronic physiological alterations
  4. Discuss introductory treatment modalities to manage acute and chronic disease conditions
  5. Explain how structural racism, bias, and the myth of race influence susceptibility to disease and contribute to disparities in identification, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes
