NURS 328 - Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Units: 2 Introduces promotion of mental health, therapeutic communication used to establish a professional, caring nurse-client relationship, evidence-based therapeutics including psychopharmacology, and recovery model applied across continuum of care. Focus on integrating knowledge about mental and physical health and developing clinical judgment.
Prerequisites: Nursing majors only and: NURS 310, NURS 309, NURS 312, NURS 307, NURS 308, NURS 316, NURS 318 Co-requisites: NURS 329. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Implement nursing care that is consistent with evidence-based practice to promote mental health and prevent, assess, intervene, and evaluate treatment for mental health disorders
- Prioritize person-centered care and self-management of chronic health conditions
- Demonstrate therapeutic communication to establish trusting relationships with individuals across the lifespan
- Integrate knowledge of physical and mental health, legal and ethical considerations, and sociocultural and economic factors to inform clinical judgement
- Use evidence-based health, cognitive, psychosocial, and mental status assessment tools to evaluate personal health and establish a plan to promote personal health, self-care, and wellbeing.
