NURS 420 - Nursing Care of Adults II

The focus of this course is the integration of evidence-based knowledge to provide holistic nursing care for adults experiencing complex acute and chronic illnesses or injuries requiring medical and/or surgical interventions, their families, in partnership with the interprofessional team.  

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: NURS 410, NURS 411, NURS 416, NURS 412, NURS 413, NURS 418
Co-requisites: NURS 421.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Integrate knowledge from the natural and behavioral sciences, humanities, and nursing as they apply to adults experiencing complex acute and chronic illnesses or injuries, their families, populations, and the interprofessional team.
  2. Apply the nursing process and critical thinking to care for adults with complex acute, chronic, and terminal illnesses or injuries and their families.
  3. Prioritize nursing care to promote, maintain, restore, or provide palliative care for adults experiencing common complex medical and/or surgical conditions and potential complications.
  4. Examine the psychosocial impacts of complex illnesses, injuries, surgical procedures, and their complications.
  5. Develop recommendations for the provision of person-centered care for adults experiencing complex acute and chronic illnesses or injuries using evidence-based knowledge and quality improvement principles.
