CS 170 - Cyber Security Awareness for Everybody: How to protect yourself in Cyber Space


Units: 3
Exploring practical computer security in everyday life for non-majors. Covering security principles, technologies/tools used to secure cyber space and keep us ‘digitally’ secure, including: Malwares, E-mail, Firewalls, Data security & Cryptography, Web/Wireless security, Password management, Authentication, Privacy/Anonymity, and US Constitution.

Credit Restrictions: Not for Computer Science major or minor credit.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Critically evaluate scopes and vulnerabilities of Cyber Space;
  2. Determine the security principles and technologies and tools that are used in cyber space for security;
  3. Employ current security tools that are available in cyber space to protect oneself;
  4. Understand privacy rights and regulations.
