HIST 101 - World History I

Prehistory to 16th century C.E.; Rise of civilization and the control/allocation of resources in the ancient/medieval world; development and spread of world religions and philosophies; empires; focus on cross-cultural encounters, social justice, and sustainability in pre-modern societies.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe people, ideas, and events shaping world history;
  2. Identify and contextualize key trends in art, architecture, literature, poetry, and material culture;
  3. Explore the impact of philosophical and religious belief systems on world societies;
  4. Compare and contrast the geographic, social, political, and economic underpinnings of diverse communities, cultures, and civilizations;
  5. Recognize the interpretive nature of history through critical reading of primary and secondary sources to understand their arguments and biases;
  6. Present evidence-based interpretations on selected history topics in oral, written, audio, or visual form; 
  7. Work collaboratively with others in solving historical problems.
