KIN 300 - Critical Inquiry in Kinesiology


Units: 4
Theory and application of research methods and data analysis to professional practice in kinesiology. Develop knowledge and skills to be a consumer and producer of research in kinesiology.

Prerequisites: BIOL 270 with C- or better.
Co-requisites: BIOL 271
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Understand diverse ways of knowing and research paradigms.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of evidence-based practices in the field of kinesiology.
  3. Consume, plan and evaluate research that is qualitative and quantitative in nature.
  4. Understand basic levels of measurement, validity, reliability, types of tests and be able to apply this knowledge when reading research studies.
  5. Develop an understanding of statistics and how to conduct, interpret, and display basic statistical tests.
  6. Conceptualize and implement interview and observation scenarios that reflect the generation of qualitative data.
  7. Critically evaluate situations, questions, and issues related to research and professional practice ethics.
