KIN 300 - Critical Inquiry in Kinesiology Units: 4 Theory and application of research methods and data analysis to professional practice in kinesiology. Develop knowledge and skills to be a consumer and producer of research in kinesiology.
Prerequisites: BIOL 270 with C- or better. Co-requisites: BIOL 271 Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Understand diverse ways of knowing and research paradigms.
- Demonstrate understanding of evidence-based practices in the field of kinesiology.
- Consume, plan and evaluate research that is qualitative and quantitative in nature.
- Understand basic levels of measurement, validity, reliability, types of tests and be able to apply this knowledge when reading research studies.
- Develop an understanding of statistics and how to conduct, interpret, and display basic statistical tests.
- Conceptualize and implement interview and observation scenarios that reflect the generation of qualitative data.
- Critically evaluate situations, questions, and issues related to research and professional practice ethics.
