EESC 462 - Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences Applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)


Units: 3
Earth, environmental and sustainability sciences utilization of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and data post-processing systems; basics of UAS aerodynamics, flight navigation systems, legislation, drone operation, and data analysis and visualization.

Prerequisites: EESC 360.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: EESC 461
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Explain fundamental concepts about using UAS as platforms for mapping the environment
  2. Identify the capabilities and limitations of different UAS and data post-processing systems
  3. Identify and explain the rules and regulations governing operating a UAS in local jurisdictions and US airspace
  4. Operate a small UAS for the collect of spatial data
  5. Design, use and evaluate different approaches to field data collection methods and interpret and analyze data collected with drones in earth, environmental and sustainability sciences applications
