EESC 462 - Earth, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences Applications of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Units: 3 Earth, environmental and sustainability sciences utilization of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and data post-processing systems; basics of UAS aerodynamics, flight navigation systems, legislation, drone operation, and data analysis and visualization.
Prerequisites: EESC 360. Strongly Recommended Preparation: EESC 461 Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Explain fundamental concepts about using UAS as platforms for mapping the environment
- Identify the capabilities and limitations of different UAS and data post-processing systems
- Identify and explain the rules and regulations governing operating a UAS in local jurisdictions and US airspace
- Operate a small UAS for the collect of spatial data
- Design, use and evaluate different approaches to field data collection methods and interpret and analyze data collected with drones in earth, environmental and sustainability sciences applications
