PH 406 - Emerging Technologies for Public Health


Units: 3
This course is designed to introduce students to emerging technologies for the public health. As the healthcare ecosystem evolves with massively expanding volumes of data, provider organizations are facing new challenges on how to make sense of the data available.

Prerequisites: PH 206 and PH 306
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online Asynchronous or Online Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe the key types of technology advancing the public health, and translate them into practice to improve the public health and health equity.
  2. Describe the relationship between informatics and technology and master the use of informatics to put technology into practice.
  3. Describe the main data and interoperability standards important to public health informatics and technology.
  4. Describe and use public health surveillance systems (public and private).
  5. Know how to synergistically leverage clinical and public health information systems for better population health and equity
  6. Describe ethical, equity, and diversity issues in technology based processes for public health.
