PH 465 - Health Data and Information Management

Accumulation, storage and use of health information and data at the individual level and in aggregate. Topics include electronic health records, health information systems, research standards, health informatics, and applicable regulations.

Prerequisites: PH 330.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

1. Identify  the technological fundamentals of health information such as digital medical imagery, electronic health records (EHRs) and health information systems (HIS).
2. Understand  how health data is collected, and the role of law and policy on the increased reliance on EHRs
3. Summarize  the legal and policy standards on how health data is stored, retrieved, and kept secure, both in the context of health providers and regulatory entities.
4. Understand the different uses of health data, for example, direct clinical uses, clinical classification systems, public health uses, and quality control/health data management.
5. Understand  current and future trends in how health data are analyzed, presented and applied in health care.
6. Apply  the appropriate techniques to process different types of health data.
