PH 340 - Climate Change, Health, and Equity

Students will explore health and social inequities associated with the impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations. Benefits associated with strategies to mitigate and build resilience to climate change, including health policies that address social inequities will also be examined.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (> 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Areas D1-D2.
Prerequisites: Requires completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3, and B4.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Discuss the key concepts of climate science related to climate change.
Discuss how health and social inequities are exacerbated by climate change.
Summarize public health effects of climate change on vulnerable populations.
Discuss health and social co-benefits associated with mitigation and resiliency strategies
Develop a written framework (CDC BRACE or CalBRACE) to identify health and social inequities and develop adaptation strategies.
