DANC 218 - Wellness through Taiko, Tango, Tai Chi & Beyond


Units: 2 ; Breadth Area: GE - E
Learn movement techniques and their ancestral contexts from diverse cultures. Embodied practices to promote mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, community, and social justice wellness. Students of all body sizes, shapes, abilities/disabilities, genders, and identities are welcome and supported.

Repeatability: Repeatable for credit for maximum of 8 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Practice basic concepts in Taiko Drumming, Argentine Tango, Tai Chi and other movement forms;
  2. adapt movement specifically for their own body, abilities/disabilities, and experience level in any cultural form they engage with;
  3. understand and communicate how movement practices can foster and maintain wellness at the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual levels and how to approach diverse cultures respectfully;
  4. understand how to develop and sustain wellness movement practices in creative ways throughout their lives;


E. Lifelong Learning and Self-Development Learning Outcomes
  1. develop intellectual, practical, and/or physical skills and abilities that will serve them throughout their lives;
  2. apply their learning to other pursuits within and outside of the classroom; and
