TED 595 - Serving and Including Children with Special Needs in PK-3 Units: 3 Developmentally appropriate practices for PK-3 children including those with disabilities, developmental delays, and those considered “at-risk”. Early intervention, preschool programs, PK-3 classroom instruction and other service delivery approaches are explored.
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PK-3 ECE Specialist Credential Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: 1. Identify and describe similarities and differences among typical and atypical PK-3 children and consider cultural backgrounds and the implications for program development.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the laws and ethical issues and practices regarding services to PK-3 children with disabilities, developmental delays, and those considered “at-risk” for delays.
3. Identify and practice strategies for collaborating with parents, families, caregivers, para-professionals and other site providers to create learning environments and activities for PK-3 children.
4. Apply UDL, early intervention, and asset-based instructional designs and assessments that support learning and appropriate environments for the PK-3 child.
