SPAN 344 - Spanish Linguistics and Phonetics


Units: 4
An introduction to the history of Spanish language, grammatical systems (Phonology, Morphology, Syntax), and socio-linguistics status of Spanish in the U.S.

Prerequisites: SPAN 242.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous, or Online-Synchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the origin and development of Spanish language.
  2. Students will be able to apply the principles of linguistics analysis with emphasis upon examples taken from the Spanish world.
  3. Students will demonstrate knowledge the principles of Spanish pronunciation and intonation through the phonetic structure of the language.
  4. Students will be able to identify their own challenges as a second language learner or Spanish heritage speaker in US.
