POSC 354 - United States Foreign Policy Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-D Role of presidents, congress, bureaucracy, public opinion, mass communications, and social movements in formulation of US foreign policy. Analysis of current and historic security, economic, and socially-minded foreign policy using various international relations theory and levels of analysis.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area D1-3 requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- Summarize and cogently discuss major foreign policy debates confronting the United States
- Understand sources of power, values, and institutions that comprise U.S. foreign policy decision-making and implementation
- Engage in thoughtful, critical thinking about U.S. foreign policy
- Make well-substantiated and educated recommendations about the future of U.S. foreign policy

- analyze how power and social identity affect social outcomes for different cultural and economic groups using methods of social science inquiry and vocabulary appropriate to those methods;
