HOS 200 - Lodging Management


Units: 3
This course will introduce students to the principles and practices of managerial functions relating to the operation of hotel and motel facilities, including development, classification, and organization.

 

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and HOS 110
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify the differences of various types and of hotels, brands, and management operations.
  2. Demonstrate how hotels utilize Revenue Management and Yield Management, and Social Media Marketing to increase occupancy and average daily rate.
  3. Describe the duties of the Executive Committee and Department Heads within a hotel showing the inter-relationships among various hotel departments.
  4. Analyze current trends in the Lodging Industry including Greening, Sustainability, Technology, Revenue Management, Culture and Internal Customers.
