REC 200 - Serving Diverse Populations in Hospitality, Recreation, Rec Therapy and Tourism


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-D1-2; Social Justice
Concepts of social equity, social justice, ability, ethnic and cultural diversity. Relationship between customers and HRT service providers. Focus includes inclusion and conflict management.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe the diverse populations who participate in the HRT field.
  2. Analyze their own biases and use of stereotypes and see issues and actions from perspectives that are different from their own.
  3. Identify how to support diverse populations in the HRT field including the assessment of the provisions provided for ADA at a specific event or program.
  4. Use conflict management skills in the workplace.
