POSC 373 - Contemporary Political Thought Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: Social Justice Major Western political ideas in the 19th and 20th centuries. Emphasis upon central figures in the development of Democratic, Marxist, Socialist, and various other contemporary bodies of political theory.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- familiarize students with some of the preeminent political ideas of our time including to explore some of the emerging ideas that may shape and political landscape of the 21st century.
- students will explore major political notions vying for influence among humanity today.
- Students will have the opportunity to explore several avenues of understanding including analyzing assigned readings, writing thoughtful essays, digesting lectures, participating in classroom discussions, critically assessing relevant videos and conversing with the instructor.
Social Justice Overlay Learning Outcomes
- use a disciplinary perspective to analyze issues of social justice and equity;
- describe the challenges to achieving social justice; and
- identify ways in which individuals and/or groups can contribute to social justice within local communities, nations, or the world.
