REC 620 - Organizational Development in Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism Units: 3 Fundamental concepts of organizational theory and human relations from a managerial perspective. Topics include structures and systems in service delivery, organizational effectiveness and change, and leadership styles.
Prerequisites: Department consent. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Develop knowledge about classic systems theory.
- Comprehend why systems are important in recreation and leisure services delivery.
- Compare various systems approaches including: Hard (operations and systems approaches), Soft (org. development), and Integrative (system dynamics).
- Explore transformational and transactional leadership styles as it relates to learning organizations.
- Analyze the learner’s existing departmental system.
- Develop a plan of action for implementation of a systems thinking approach.
- Create a model of systems thinking for the learner’s place of business.
