ART 346 - 3D Modeling and Animation II Units: 3 Production of intermediate level 3D models of characters and scenes for use in 3D digital animation used for storytelling and creative communication. Analyze and apply camera, lighting, and modeling techniques with animation principles in assignments and projects.
Prerequisites: ART 246. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Develop an understanding of modeling and animation for real time 3D virtual worlds, pre-rendered/linear media, augmented/mixed reality, and real world printing and prototyping.
2. Analyze form in 3D space as it moves in 4D through animation, realtime, and time-based investigations.
3. Design iteratively in a cycle of user testing and rapid prototyping.
4. Understand shifting technologies and how strong fundamentals in sculpture and storying telling are ubiquitous throughout digital media.
5. Demonstrate familiarity with intermediate concepts in modeling and animation.
6. Engage emerging technologies and incorporate them into a project.
7. Quickly conceptualize and prototype environments, characters, and storylines into modular abstract libraries allowing for kitbashing and digital modification.
8. Collaborate with peers in the development and execution of 3D models for animations and real-time experiences.
