NURS 315 - Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing Practice Units: 2 This clinical practicum provides students with experience assessing the mental health of clients, developing patient centered nursing plans of care, implementing interventions, and evaluating client outcomes. Emphasis is on the development of therapeutic relationships.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major. Co-requisites: NURS 314. Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.
Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 4 units. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: CR/NC grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Demonstrate the ability to establish therapeutic communication and relationships with clients and their families.
- Assess and accurately describe the cognitive, emotional and mental status of clients.
- Formulate patient-centered plans of care to address the mental health needs of clients.
- Incorporate patient preferences, health beliefs, and personal resources into a client’s plan of care.
- Participate in the implementation of appropriate mental health interventions to support or promote the mental health of clients.
- Analyze their interactions with clients and evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions to meet clients’ mental health needs.
