NURS 420 - Nursing Care of Adults II Units: 2 Nursing care of adult patients, and their families, who are experiencing complex acute and chronic illness requiring medical and surgical interventions.
Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: NURS 410, NURS 411, NURS 412, NURS 413, NURS 417. Co-requisites: NURS 421. Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.
Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 4 units. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Integrate and analyze knowledge from the natural and behavioral sciences, humanities and nursing as they apply to adults and families with complex acute and chronic illness.
- Describe the nursing management of common medical conditions and potential complications.
- Describe common surgical approaches and the nursing management of the surgical patient.
- Discuss the psychosocial implications of the disease/condition/surgery and its complications.
- Apply the nursing process and critical thinking to the development of nursing care for patients and families with complex acute and chronic illness.
- Describe nursing interventions to restore, maintain and promote health of adults with complex acute and chronic illness
