ENGL 441 - Queer Early Modern Literature


Units: 4
Survey of queer early modern British literature. Topics include challenges and opportunities of charting histories of LGBTQIA+ identities, critical debates in queer early modern studies, queerness of early modern theatrical practices, and queer adaptations of early modern texts.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Become familiar with major concepts in queer early modern studies.
  2. Gain a nuanced understanding of early modern texts.
  3. Develop close reading skills and use them to actively analyze texts.
  4. Develop arguments about literature using concepts from gender and sexuality studies and queer theory, and convey them effectively in writing.
