FIN 425 - Student Investment Fund


Units: 3
Students will actively manage a stock portfolio with real money in real investments.  Hands-on experiential learning in the investment process and integrating knowledge and skills from prior finance and investment courses by applying theories to practice.

Prerequisites: FIN 405, FIN 420; Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Explain differences between top-down and bottom-up approaches to investing.
  2. Identify different market sectors and explain their role in a diversified portfolio.
  3. Describe the risk-return relationship through a quantitative analysis of portfolio management.
  4. Examine various valuation metrics and models to evaluate equity securities.
  5. Apply technology skills in using software to analyze and present research to recommend portfolio holdings.
