FIN 425 - Student Investment Fund

Units: 3
Students will actively manage a stock portfolio with real money in real investments. Hands-on experiential learning in the investment process and integrating knowledge and skills from prior finance and investment courses by applying theories to practice.

Prerequisites: FIN 405, FIN 420; Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Explain differences between top-down and bottom-up approaches to investing.
Identify different market sectors and explain their role in a diversified portfolio.
Describe the risk-return relationship through a quantitative analysis of portfolio management.
Examine various valuation metrics and models to evaluate equity securities.
Apply technology skills in using software to analyze and present research to recommend portfolio holdings.
