ENSC 343 - Atmospheric Science


Units: 3
Composition, structure, and thermodynamics of the atmosphere. Cloud and precipitation formation processes. Atmospheric-ocean feedbacks. Implications of human modification of the atmosphere.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: PHYS 125, PHYS 126, and CHEM 110 or CHEM 111.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Explain the physical laws governing the structure and evolution of atmospheric phenomena spanning a broad range of spatial and temporal scales.
  2. Apply mathematical tools to study atmospheric processes.
  3. Explain the principles behind, and use of, meteorological instrumentation.
  4. Describe, analyze and create graphical depictions of meteorological information.
  5. Present and communicate weather analyses, forecasts, and climate predications in a team or individually.
