REC 361 - Recreation Therapy Diagnostic Groupings


Units: 3
Cognitive/developmental disorders, physical/medical disorders, and psychiatric disorders and how recreation therapy interventions are used. 

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Identify Recreation Therapy Interventions for cognitive/developmental disorders and related impairments (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke), Epilepsy, Fibromyalgia and Juvenile Fibromyalgia, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, Major Depressive Disorder, Neurocognitive Disorders, Obesity, Parkinson’s Disease, and Traumatic Brain Injury, and Dementia).
  2. Recognize Recreation Therapy Interventions for physical/medical disorders and related impairments (Amputation; Prosthesis, Back Disorders; Back Pain, Burns, Cancer, Cerebral Palsy, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Diabetes Mellitus, Hearing Loss, Heart Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, Pressure Ulcers, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Sickle Cell Disease, Spina Bifida, Spinal Cord Injury, Total Joint Replacement, Visual Impairments and Blindness, and muscular dystrophy, sensory impairments).
  3. Analyze Recreation Therapy Interventions for psychiatric disorders and related impairments (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Feeding; Eating Disorders, Gambling Disorder, Oppositional Disorder; Conduct Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia Spectrum; Other Psychotic Disorders, Substance-Related Disorders).
