EDLD 760 - Evaluation Research Practicum for Social Justice Units: 3 Focuses on the core knowledge and skills needed to design, conduct and report on an empirical study. Students will design and conduct a pilot study related to their dissertation. They will analyze data to create and report major findings.
Prerequisites: Admission to Ed.D. Educational Leadership Program. Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Design and assess a range of strategies for interacting with students, parents, and teachers as respectful partners in authentic learning work (2.8).
- Examine and analyze a range of strategies to ensure that all members of the educational community (students, parents, teachers, administrators, district staff, school board, and community members) are working in concert toward a shared vision (3.1).
- Demonstrate skill in evaluating and building systems to create and maintain a culture of high expectations and quality work, including the links between expectations, standards, assessment and student learning (4.3).
- Analyze a variety of formal (e.g., standardized test scores) and informal (e.g., student work) data on student learning to identify gaps; work with faculty and community members to adjust instruction to ensure high quality learning opportunities are present for all students, contributing to closing of the achievement gap (4.7).
- Identify and analyze theoretical and ethical issues in knowledge construction and research practice (8.2).
- Identify and analyze evaluative research designs to best address gaps in knowledge (8.7).
- Design and apply appropriate research methodology in framing and carrying out evaluative inquiry.
- Demonstrate role of practitioner-researcher by use of multiple avenues to create and share knowledge about local educational issues (8.8).
- Assess, evaluate, and synthesize evidence to support an argument (9.2).
- Demonstrate proficiency in written communication with practitioner audiences, including evaluation reports and summarizing/presenting research (9.3).
