CS 605 - Cryptography & Data Security


Units: 3
Cryptographic theory with applications to data security. Topics include: secret-key, public-key encryption, message integrity, digital signatures, user authentication, key management, cryptographic hashing, public-key infrastructure, quantum and post quantum cryptography and zero-knowledge protocols. Tool based, programming assignments.

Prerequisites: CS 301 or CS 601.
Credit Restrictions: Computer Science M.S. or B.S. students only.

Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Describe key network security requirements of confidentiality, integrity and availability.
  2. Understand security services, mechanisms, security threats and attacks.
  3. Analyze and evaluate symmetric and asymmetric cryptography algorithms.
  4. Investigate the operation of HASH & MAC functions and digital signatures.
  5. Discuss new and future developments in cryptography.
