SLHS 401 - Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology of Speech, Language and Hearing


Units: 3
Anatomy and physiology of the central and peripheral nervous systems as related to human cognitive and communicative function and dysfunction - with emphasis on normal processes.

Prerequisites: SLHS 301, SLHS Declared Major or admitted graduate student.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Draw and/or identify the anatomical structures of the brain, especially those involved in speech, language, hearing, and cognition.
  2. Draw the neural pathways and circuitry subserving normal speech, language, hearing, and cognition
  3. Describe the processes of normal speech, language, hearing, and cognition.
  4. Describe the neuroanatomical and neurophysiological processes in common disorders of communication and cognition.
