TED 520 - Foundations of Single Subject Education


Units: 4
Foundations of education for middle school and high school classrooms; emphasis on application of learning principles for students, including multicultural settings; instruction and planning in the single subject classroom.

Prerequisites: Admission to Single Subject Credential Program.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe the major stages of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development in students (CO)
  2. Describe the major principles of behavioral and cognitive learning theory and their application to classroom learning (CO)
  3. Identify individual differences in students known to affect their behavior, motivation, and learning.(CO)
  4. Describe major theories of motivation and how they can be used to explain student behavior and achievement in school,(CO)
  5. Describe major characteristics of special student populations and components of the special education referral process. (CO)
  6. Demonstrate the ability to plan instructional interventions for special students and social accommodations for their inclusion.(CO)
  7. Identify and select appropriate assessments to gather background data on students as determined by TPA task Designing Instruction.(CO)
  8. Describe and interpret the outcomes of common forms of student measurement and evaluation.(CO)
  9. Identify the impact of cultural and language differences on motivation and learning.(CO)
  10. Create an ESA (Engage, Study, and Activate) lesson plan.
