HIST 402 - Public History


Units: 4
Sharing history with diverse audiences outside of the classroom, and examining questions about whose history we collect, preserve, commemorate, or publish. Students work collaboratively in teams to create projects that make the past accessible to public audiences.

Prerequisites: HIST 201.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid, or Online Asynchronous or Online Synchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Create public history projects through team-based assignments.
  2. Interpret historical arguments, derived from primary and secondary sources, for a diverse public audience. 
  3. Analyze issues of representation and presentation of public history. 
  4. Explore careers in public history and learn what advanced training is required. 
  5. Present historical findings through oral projects
