REC 365 - Advancement of Recreation Therapy Profession and Management Units: 3 In-depth examination of a recreation therapy service plan of operation, procedures for program evaluation and accountability, quality improvement guidelines and techniques, and professionalism in recreation therapy management.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground, or Hybrid or Online-Asynchronous. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Identify recreation therapy service plan of operation (e.g., TRAM model, policy and procedure development).
- Examine procedures for program evaluation and accountability (e.g., attendance, participation rates, cost benefit analysis).
- Analyze quality improvement guidelines and techniques (e.g., utilization review, risk management, peer review, outcome monitoring).
- Utilize personnel, intern, and volunteer management (e.g., recruitment, supervision, coordination, evaluation).
- Identify payment system (e.g. government funding, managed care, private contract, Medicare, Medicaid, ICDM).
- Examine facility and equipment management (e.g., maintenance, upgrading, inventory).
- Utilize budgeting and fiscal management (e.g., fund acquisition, fund management).
- Discover professionalism (e.g., professional boundaries, professional appearance, and behavior).
- Identify credential maintenance and upgrading professional competencies (e.g., certification, recertification, licensure, continuing education, specializations).
- Discover advocacy for person(s) served (e.g., patient/consumer rights, grievance policies, HIPAA).
- Identify legislation and regulations pertaining to TR/RT (e.g., related service definitions, Affordable Care Act).
- Develop public relations, promotion and marketing of the TR/RT profession.
- Discover professional associations and organizations.
