MGMT 314 - Leadership and Management


Units: 3
Critical analysis of descriptive and normative theories of formal organization, including a consideration of organization structure, communications, planning, and control. Other topics include the effects of business environment, behavioral science, and globalization on management decisions.

Prerequisites: Completion of GE areas A1, A2 and A3.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground or Online-Asynchronous.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe the purpose and functions of management in organizations.
  2. Apply theories of behavioral science to the practice of management and leadership.
  3. Explain the fundamental principles of organizing and recognize various types of organizational structures.
  4. Apply theories of organization, leadership, and power to informal structures such as social networks.
  5. Explain and apply the process of research in management science.
