ART 335 - Design Strategy and Collaborations Units: 3 Students apply graphic design principles and design thinking (ideation, research, prototyping) to problem solve more complex and comprehensive design projects. Emphasis is placed on conceptual thinking, formal experimentation and creative collaborations.
Prerequisites: ART 330 and ART 331. Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Produce a design proposal that clearly and analytically communicates research and design intent in response to a client’s design brief constraints, communication needs, designated audiences and production deadlines;
- Develop innovative design concepts that address issues and use sophisticated typography, visual form and structural relationships to effectively communicate knowledge and ideas to different audiences and stakeholders;
- Use human-centered design thinking (perception, cognition, behavior, physiology, usability, testing and feedback) to evaluate and ensure that real-world design outcomes reflect users’ needs and perspectives;
- Demonstrate advanced skill levels in the use of industry standards digital applications, prototyping tools, iterative processes of applied research, critical thinking, visualization, attention to details and crafting of final artwork presentations;
- Apply design principles, visual elements, conceptual and lateral approaches to idea development to resolve cross-cultural, multifaceted communication issues coherently across a broad range of media formats;
- Work collaboratively with peers and experts to develop alternative ideas, listen to and understand different perspectives, share skills and design roles and contribute constructive input for problem solving design projects.
