BIOL 356 - Freshwater Environments


Units: 4
Principles, practices, and applications of analyzing freshwater physical and biological environments with their major communities of plants and animals, including comparisons of diverse habitats from freshwater wetlands through rivers and lakes. Illustrated lectures and various options for lab/field observations. Lecture Units: 3; Lab Units: 1

Prerequisites: BIOL 350.
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 8 units when course content varies.
Possible Instructional Methods: On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate background knowledge as definitions and facts about freshwater ecology, as limits on aquatic habitats and species;
  2. Explain ecological concepts and principles of freshwater communities and ecosystems;
  3. Apply the practices of a professional ecologist, in obtaining and evaluating review articles from scientific literature on freshwater ecology, and applying this information to identify environmental problems and solutions in a variety of freshwater habitats.
