MATH 118E - Mathematics for the Arts and Humanities with Extra Support


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-B4
This course explores mathematics as a human endeavor created in political, cultural, philosophical, and artistic contexts and examines the many commonalities mathematics has with literature, philosophy, art, and music. The course includes a 1 unit activity component. 
 

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: ABC/NC grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Verbally and visually represent basic mathematical concepts.
  2. Use mathematical reasoning to solve problems, test conjectures, check answers to determine reasonableness, and communicate the reasoning and the results.
  3. Recognize and use connections between mathematics and other disciplines.

  1. Demonstrate a proficient and fluent ability to reason quantitatively;
  2. demonstrate a general understanding of how practitioners and scholars collect and analyze data, build mathematical models, and/or solve quantitative problems; and
  3. apply quantitative reasoning skills in a variety of real-world contexts, defined by personal, civic, and/or professional responsibilities.
