BIOL 312 - Women in Science Units: 3 Readings, discussion, and research on historical and contemporary contributions, achievements, and challenges of women in science and approaches toward reducing the gender gap in science.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Completion of GE areas A1, A2, A3, and B4. Prerequisites: Upper division standing and College of Science major. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Discuss important contributions of women scientists throughout history.
- Evaluate published research articles from select women scientists and relate to STEM courses.
- Discuss the origins and consequences of the gender gap in science.
- Analyze critiques of science from various perspectives, including feminism.
- Synthesize, integrate, and effectively communicate scientific evidence addressing issues of women in/and science both in writing and verbally.
