MUS 486 - Sound Design II: Synthesis, Modulation & Creative Digital Signal Processing Units: 3 This course builds on skills introduced in MUS 280 (Essentials of Music Technology) to advanced students interested in the creation of stand-alone electronic music compositions through synthesis programming and other computer-based composition techniques.
Prerequisites: MUS 280 and Junior standing or above. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Students will master the fundamentals of sound, acoustics, and electronics with an emphasis on developing the basic knowledge and skills to create original sounds via audio synthesis.
- Reflect upon and analyze everyday sonic experiences and articulate them to others.
- Design and implement computer music applications using essential sound synthesis and programming techniques.
- Identify suitable synthesis techniques to develop a design strategy for a specific sound design problem.
