NURS 605 - Contemporary Issues in Healthcare Economic and Social Policy


Units: 3
Healthcare issues, policy, politics, and healthcare economics are analyzed in the context of national health priorities. Impact of policies on accessibility, affordability and quality of care are discussed. Strategies for nurse leaders to engage in health policy are evaluated.

Prerequisites: M.S.N. major.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Analyze the influence of health policy on healthcare economics, systems and outcomes.
  2. Critically evaluate strategies for engagement of nurse leaders in health policy development, implementation, and advocacy.
  3. Analyze the legal and ethical implications of policy for accessibility, affordability and quality of care.
  4. Demonstrate advocacy skills to improve the scope of advanced nursing practice and advance the profession of nursing.
  5. Propose means of advancing the health of the public through development and implementation of health policy.
  6. Analyze the impact of policy on the regulation of nursing practice and health care.
