ENGL 412 - Shakespeare II


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C
A survey of representative later plays;  dramatic conventions of Renaissance theater; Renaissance intellectual background; Elizabethan and Jacobean genres.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. gain a nuanced understanding of Shakespeare’s plays
  2. develop close reading skills and use them to actively analyze Shakespeare’s texts
  3. respond to Shakespeare’s works in a variety of modes (critically, reflectively, and creatively)
  4. develop arguments and convey them effectively in writing
  5. conduct research and present your findings
  6. collaborate with your peers in discussions and group activities
