MLL 444 - Survey Spanish Literature II: 18th Century to Present Units: 3 Survey of Spanish literature from the 18th century to the present. Socio-political, aesthetic, philosophical and literary ideas studied through selections of major works; neo-classicism, romanticism, naturalism, the Generation of ‘98, and modern and contemporary authors.
Prerequisites: MLL 343 and completion of GE areas A1, A2 and A3. Co-requisites: MLL 345. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Students will be presented a panoramic knowledge of the literature produce from the 18th century to the present, including the most important trends, schools and periods.
- Student will able to identify and analyze literary works of different genres (narrative, poetry, and drama) and its connections with the broader cultural milieu.
- Student will able to understand the political and cultural implications of the literatures produced by canonical and marginal authors in Spain during the last three centuries.
- Students will be confronted with the implication of the development of a modern Spanish in confrontation with current trends in cultural studies, gender studies and post colonialism.
