MUS 218 - Keyboard Musicianship III Units: 1 Group instruction in piano for music majors. Emphasis on reading from staff notation, technique, keyboard harmony, improvisation, and repertoire.
Prerequisites: MUS 112, MUS 116, MUS 119. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Perform select major and minor scales with standard fingering
- Perform chord progressions in multiple keys
- Perform multiple chord types and their inversions
- Harmonize simple melodies using diatonic chords
- Transpose simple melodies with accompaniment
- Develop sight-reading abilities in grand staff (treble + bass clefs)
- Prepare repertoire for public performance
- Improvise appropriately leveled patterns
- Read transposing instruments and in C-clefs
- Perform choral open scores
- Perform instrumental and vocal accompaniments with peers
